Hand weaving was once a basic industry in all countries. Over the centuries, this has largely disappeared, and the Bengal Handloom industry remains a rare exception to that rule.
With handlooms, there is low consumption of electricity, all raw materials are sourced naturally and ethically, there is minimum wastage of materials, and the elaborate process generates niche employment opportunities in rural India. All these factors contribute to making the handloom industry one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable in fashion.
Therefore, it is necessary to revive this sector instead of mass-produced goods. Besides, a handcrafted product's value will always be much higher!
